Hi friends, can you believe its been five years since I started JMC? As I type away on my Mac that I originally started this blog on, I ponder about how much has changed and how incredible this journey has been. JMC started as my passion project, an outlet during my senior year of high school, and has become so much more, a digital space truly reflecting of me. Over the years I've got to share a huge part of my life with all of you and I am so thankful you've been here for me. I'm so overwhelmingly grateful for my followers, my friends, my family, my readers, my photographers, and everyone who has supported JMC.
Over the years I have really challenged myself to create the best digital representation of myself. It hasn't been easy, but I'm grateful to everyone who has helped me culminate an aesthetically pleasing place on the world wide web. This year I wanted to find ways to make JMC better, which started with a new layout that was more accommodating for the space that JMC has become, I wanted to shop more sustainably, and I wanted to work with more local photographers.
I was lucky enough to meet Xochi aka Girl in the Midwest who chose me to be the first in her #facesofKC project, a project capturing KCitians that truly represent the soul of Kansas City. I am so honored and grateful to be apart of this project. I love that these shots represent me in such a raw and real way.
Since it has been five years I wanted to share five things I would have told myself five years ago:
1. No matter what anyone tells you, hope and creativity are two of the most important things in the world (thanks Emma Stone)
2. Dreams can change and that's okay
3. Cultivate and live an authentic life
4. Never stop being the change you want to see in the world
5. Karma is so real

Looking back on the past five years, I thought I'd also pick five of my favorite style posts (all are my favorite honestly). However these five are my top favorites:
1. Stars - I loved everything about this dress and this post. Thinking about our shoot makes me so nostalgic, such a fun day.
2. Oh My Monet - I loved this outfit so much and since then its become one of my signatures. This was the first shoot I met the incredible Emma York at. I loved how my style was captured here. I just feel like this shoot really represented my style without words.
3. Hey 2015 - I think one of the reasons I love this shoot so much is because I came straight from a hair appointment and my hair is at its finest here. It's not often I do posts in the winter with a jacket, so this post was one of the first I'd ever shot in winter. I love the Country Club Plaza and taking pictures here just really helped solidify how KC is apart of me.
4. Black & Yellow - Oh I loved visiting Pittsburgh and walking around the art museums with Sanjana and Steph. Every time I look back at this post I'm flooded with nostalgia and the feeing that Pennsylvania would be a good place to me.
5. Glitter/Wake Me Up When September Ends - Oh I love both these posts so much, one during my first year of college, the second the summer after when my friend Katie and I grew really close. Both posts have some vintage or H&M and I love the way these photos came out.
So what's next for JMC? I always strive to be a source for sustainable and classic fashion, a voice on beauty, and some lifestyle content here and there. I always want my content to be authentic and carefully crafted with an emphasis on doing one green thing. I have so much content coming to you guys soon that I'm so damn excited about.
Thank you for being here with me today, if you weren't here who knows where I'd be.

DeleteCongratulations on your 5 year Blogiversary!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful mind in addition to your very beautiful appearance.
From amongst the outfit pieces in the five fashion posts you linked I especially liked:
The Free People dress in your 'Stars' post;
The pretty scarf in your 'Oh My Monet' post;
The coat in your 'HEY 2015!' post;
The GIF of you with the earmuffs and pink hair-bow in your 'Black + Yellow' post;
Your smile and pretty print blouson-style dress in the 'Glitter' post, and;
The entire OOTD in your post 'Wake Me Up When September Ends'.
You have done some wonderful blog posts in the last five years -
and I think this post may be my favourite!
The lilies are pretty, so is your perfectly applied lipstick, and your hair looks beautiful!
Your thoughts are beautiful and your photos are fabulous.
