To be honest I never thought I'd be into the corset trend unless of course the costumes from Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette were up for trying on.
When I first saw this top I was a little unsure how I felt about the trend especially because corsets used to be a symbol of oppression. However, the resurgence of corsets have come with a new zeitgeist, particularly with an emphasis on empowered women and body positivity. Not only can this trend be seen at mass retailers but celebrities have been taking on the corset trend alongside copious designers.
Finally, when I was in D.C. I ended up picking up this blouse from Target (which is on sale for $17.48 right now). What was surprising to me was how often I find myself picking this blouse out of my closet to wear. Whether it be for coffee, class, or for a date night. I am truly surprised at the versatility of this blouse. I also love that it emphasizes my waist in a trendy way. For reference I am wearing a small although a extra small would've worked too.
I styled this corset top very simply with a pair of BDG denim from Urban Outfitters. If I could style it a different way I'd style it with coated jeans or these Kate Spade Poppy embroidered jeans I've been wanting forever. In terms of accessories I think I'd choose this Kate Spade Crossbody or this Tory Burch clutch.
In other news I am keeping busy with school and work and surprisingly doing well in my financial accounting class. I was so bad at accounting in undergrad, but this time around accounting is my frenemy. I'm so looking forward to warm weather and a beautiful spring. I keep hoping that I'll find a full bloomed lilac bush on one of my walks. I'm also 8 books through my 23 book reading challenge! How do you feel about the corset trend? See you next week friends!
P.S. A big shout out to my new friend Erin Hassett for taking these photos for the blog.

Deletecoincidentally enough, my mom bought me a corset styled top from Zara! I've found it rather tricky to mix and match and I haven't yet gathered the courage to wear it...

I'm sure you can pull it off wonderfully Annick! I think styling it casually with denim is a great way to incorporate it into your wardrobe! You're so welcome girl. I'm so glad to hear that. Thanks so much, let's work on practicing life and being easier on ourselves together.
