More to Wrap About

February 16, 2018

My 5th wrap dress yet, and yes I know this obsession is becoming a problem. However, I've said before that wrap dresses are life changing! They're a symbol of empowerment, feminism, innovation, and a testament to the great works DVF has achieved over the course of her career.
Now did I need a 3rd DVF wrap dress... Well not necessarily, but I had been keeping  an eye out for a silk/wool blend wrap dress (the top is silk/lycra and skirt is wool) that I could wear over the winter and the early months of a new year. I had really been holding out for the New Jeanne Two Wrap Dress, but I thought I could find a more affordable option. To my delight I found this Brea dress, brand new, and for an affordable $30 just missing a couple buttons. I'm really excited to add this long sleeve wrap dress into my collection. Its so classic and versatile! Wrap dresses are like a second skin to me in a way.
This bomber jacket from Free People picked me. When I was visiting my Dad in D.C. I needed a light jacket because I managed to forget to pack my leather jacket (never expect a "What to Pack" post from me I just pack eyeshadow honestly). So I wandered into a Marshalls, always a really bad way for me to start a story. I found this jacket and a $124 Kate Spade blazer which I truly regret not buying. I couldn't justify the Kate Spade blazer at the time although now I'm kicking myself over it, but thought the bomber was a safer pick.
I don't own any bomber jackets and the trend was one I saw sizzling out really quickly. There was a jacket at H&M I wanted, but the price was out of my budget (when did H&M get so pricey?!), and I didn't see my size. I think this shade of pink describes where I'm at in life right now especially right over a classic black DVF wrap dress.
I especially like the versatility of this jacket. I find myself throwing on a bomber when I go out for a walk or as I'm out the door putting espadrilles on to go to a coffee date. I've found that I'm really not into the street style look of bombers, but I like pairing them with dressier pieces like turtlenecks and long skirts. I still dream of that Kate Spade blazer but I think it may find a way into my closet eventually.
I'm obsessed with this photo. Major props to Erin! These Altuzarra for Target heels I bought off Poshmark have really lasted me. They're such a classic pair! I think I'd also try a fun pair of SJP Collection heels with this wrap dress.

I'm sure this won't be the last wrap dress I add to my collection. I've been eying a striped sleeveless wrap dress from DVF on eBay. I'm also still scouring for a red sundial print DVF wrap dress that Lorelei Gilmore wore in season 6 of Gilmore Girls. Think you can up my Gilmore Girls obsession, try me!  P.S. I'm sorry it has been so long for a style post, I had a no buy in January and hadn't been shopping a lot, but things have changed since then!

Do you own a wrap dress?

Many thanks to Erin Hassett for taking these photos, check out her site here, and give her a follow on Insta!

    1. Sometimes I think my wardrobe is a bit too classic or straight forward at times. I only buy pieces I love which can be a great thing, but I never want to be in a style rut!

Your pink bomber is so nice with this too!

Hope you had a great weekend. The heatwave continued here unfortunately, so it was another fairly quiet and aircon filled weekend for us!

    1. Thanks Mica! Sometimes I just feel like I'm buying the same thing and I'm going to have a cartoon character's wardrobe before I know it! I need to try a wrap top from DVF sometime. Oh no, we had a ice storm yesterday! My car nearly slid down my whole driveway =(
