Dry Bar Fully Loaded Review

January 20, 2020

It seems like I have been on the hunt for a DryBar hairdryer at Marshalls/TJX for an eternity. At one point I had spotted some on IG and my best friend Victoria and I literally scoured each store in our area with no luck. Since I am a Marshalls/TJX fiend I follow a girl in KC who posts what she finds at the nearby stores which helps me see the new loot and pinpoint what I want. One Saturday she posted this set at a nearby shop and I dropped everything and drove to TJ! I got this set for $129 which is a steal because the hairdryer itself retails for $195. Nordstrom Rack is actually selling this set for $120 rn which is a STEAL and recently I've seen this set on clearance at Marshalls/TJ.
Initially I was on the fence about which set I wanted. Both came with the Buttercup Blow Dryer but different hair brushes, accessories, and travel size products. After much deliberation I decided that this set was the better option (Although I still want a round ceramic brush and rollers). Especially since it came with the Lil' Lemon Drop Detanging brush, Hold Me Hair Clips, and a handful of travel size products which would be great for me!
So what's the deal with this hairdryer? Isn't it like any other hairdryer? I feel like I have a Lorelai Gilmore response- it's yellow and its beautiful... Buuut it also has ionic technology which reduces frizz and seals cuticles, it  has a light weight design, and the perfect power settings for a blowout. My hair dresser has been telling me for the longest time to just bite the bullet and buy a better hairdryer so I'm doing it now and I'm excited about it! Now onto the review!
Buttercup Blow Dryer - If I was judging on the looks of this dryer alone would knock it out of the park. The yellow is so much more beautiful in person... However I will try to be a little more constructive. So this hairdryer has three heat settings and two power settings (including a cool setting). The cord is also 9 ft long! Overall, my hair is definitely less frizzy. The dry time is significantly less 2.5 minutes verses a little over 5 minutes on a Remington hairdryer.
I wanted to compare hairdryers in terms of drying time because I know not everyone has the time to do a blowout everyday. I normally blow dry my hair upside down for extra volume. The image on the top left is me using a regular hair dryer which took approximately 5 minutes. I washed my hair  with New Wash and dried with a bit of Moroccan oil  and some shine serum.

Whereas the image on the bottom right I used my Buttercup blowdryer and washed with MOROCCANOIL shampoo and conditioner with the same oil and shine serum. My ends are beyond dead I know, and my hairdresser is going to let me know a month from now when I finally get my haircut. Nevertheless, my mane is definitely shinier and more tamed with the Drybar hairdryer. I'm even more pleased with the results of a blowout. Pics to come.
This hairdryer comes with two nozzles a small and a large one.
The small nozzle gives more of a concentration of heat which is better for coarse or curly hair.  Whereas the larger nozzle is more a wider dispersion of air and is better for curling hair. Personally I like the larger nozzle because I like the little bit of curl you get from a blowout. As I have been trying to blowout my hair at home I have been reaching for the Drybar Guide to Good Hair for All. I actually found this book at HBP and it has been a great resource! I am definitely looking at the pages to see if there are any handy tips. I am still trying to find the right round brush though. Any suggestions?

Well that's it friends! I am planning on recording a tutorial on how to do a blowout for fine hair. I'm currently gathering the extra things I need to perfect this challenging skill. Also, a big thank you to my best friend Victoria, for understanding why a yellow hairdryer is so important.

  4. Wow $195 for a hair dryer is a lot so getting it for $129 is excellent. At that price I think it is worth it if it indeed makes hair less frizzy as frizz is one of the most difficult things to deal with, with ones hair. Will have to keep this in mind, thanks for the review!
