March in Manhattan

March 24, 2025

My beloved turned 32 and we decided to take a trip to our favorite city! So I got to work deciding on what to pack for five days using my Stylebook app – which actually was recently updated?! – did all the pre-work like stopping by the cobbler, dry cleaner, etc, and then we hopped on a flight where I tried to watch Gladiator II (Spoiler alert: I did not finish it).

While I visit NYC often in the spring, I don't typically go in March. Our trip seemed to have coincided with Spring Deception where it's warm enough to not really need a jacket but it's brutal once the sun goes down. Overall, the temperatures ranged in the mid-forties and mid-fifties. I packed pretty well — wearing everything I packed — and I stayed warm. A big coat is still a must in March, and gloves too!

When I tell you I was stressed about finding a coat for this trip! Low forties made me linger for something different, beyond my usual winter coats. A Saks Potts rental from By Rotation was my initial dream, but it wasn't meant to be. The search continued and eventually I landed on this Proenza Schouler White Label Navy Shaggy Coat which I rented for a week for $109.
I'll admit, I thought this coat was way too big when I first tried it on. But it ended up being perfect, handling the fluctuating weather beautifully – from chilly to slightly warmer days. It also made for a great blanket on the plane!
OPI Ochre the Moon. Not a color I would normally seek out, but it has been making me happy!
My friend, Crow, who I actually met on the ice, is a brilliant jeweler. I had a few pieces that needed some restoration like these hoop earrings. Crow diligently helped me in addition to a handful other pieces like masterfully transforming my nameplate necklace, simplifying it to just 'Sonia.' Peep it in my fits below!
Gf marg pizza from Made in New York Pizza
Honeycomb ice cream from Van Leeuwen's
I had been eyeing this Tommie dress from Anthropologie for ages, and I finally took the plunge! It's 100% cotton, so it's super comfy. I knew it would be perfect for this trip, and it's already become a favorite in my wardrobe. Great for work and a day out!
Modern Bread & Bagel. Everything is gf which led to a Anne Hathaway "Shut up!" kinda moment.
The mist ruined my hair!
One of my favorite pieces at the MoMA! We only watched an hour of this 24-hour film but I think we could've stayed all day.
There was an exhibit featuring three female Indian artists! The Navarasa Suite from the series Bombay Photo Studio (above) particularly spoke to me.
Mike Kelley’s Deodorized Central Mass with Satellites
It felt funny to contrast so much with this piece!
I took my boss's advice and checked out the Tiffany's bathroom on the fifth floor. It lived up to the hype.
One of the more tourist-y things I wanted to see. I can't get over the details!
Louis store followed by a trip to Bottega! While I didn't purchase anything from either store I did try on some Bottega earrings that I plan to buy for my birthday!
UWS
Andrew's Honey!
Back at Modern Bread & Bagel! I had a cinnamon bun and a coffee!
Wearing my Ciao turtleneck, AGOLDE jeans, old Tory Burch boots, old Miu Miu sunnies, and my Tom Ford Tara bag.
Chemex brewed coffee for two at the Starbucks Reserve! TBH I was kinda disappointed in the rest of their spring drink and merch selection!
Not pictured: me trying (and failing) to find the perfect Rare Beauty blush shade. After some shopping, we had lunch, but then started to feel meh! After some rallying we made it to Drunken Munkey in the UES which I've frequented before. Truly such fab food. Then, we went to the Wolfe, and I had a nonalcoholic Aperol Spritz!
On Saturday we went to Friednman's for breakfast. They have so many gf and gf friendly options! I had gf lemon ricotta pancakes.
You may notice my Miffy keychain! I bought her at the MoMA — Miffy is dressed in the squares of colors that are so strongly associated with Mondrian and the De Stijl movement. I am not usually one for knick knacks but this keychain brought back such fond memories of a YSL paper doll I had as a kid, so I had to buy it!
After a couple days of heavy walking it was nice to just stroll around Central Park! While we sat at the Bethesda Fountain we asked a couple of photographers if they could take a picture of us on film (Portra 400), which they easily obliged and offered to take pictures with their film cameras. It was such a nice interaction! I can't wait to see how they develop.
Spring is springing in certain parts of NYC!
After walking through Central Park and grabbing a coffee we saw Mickey 17. Not my favorite film, tbh, but I'm glad we stopped and made time to see a movie. We ended our last day on the highest of high notes with my cousins, catching up, having supper, walking around, looking for a spot that could fit 6 for a libation or two, and then laying back when we found a spot!
It's never really a goodbye when it comes to New York, I'll be back in the summer, but I was sad to leave. Just when I felt like I was truly settling into our neighborhood in the Upper West Side, discovering shops to pop in and samples sales to haunt, it was time to pack our bags and head to the airport. Overall, it was a truly fun trip celebrating my love and enjoying the city.

Thanks to JL for the photos <3
